The Insidious Disease: Are You Experiencing These Diabetes Symptoms?

Did you know that there are now 86 million people who suffer from pre-diabetes? In fact, 15,000 children every year are being diagnosed with diabetes, and researchers foretell that by 2050, there will be 29.1 million people inflicted with type 2 diabetes. Clearly, these numbers are quite alarming.

But what exactly is diabetes, and what are the common telltale diabetes symptoms you should watch out for?

My newest FREE eBook, One in Three Americans Have or Will Get Diabetes – Are You One of Them and Don’t Know It?, will provide you with substantial information about the truth regarding diabetes – and what to do when diabetes symptoms strike.

What Are Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes?

Diabetes is a complicated disease that may lead you to feel helpless about your health. There are two types of diabetes: type 1 and type 2. Type 1 is prevalent among children and young adults, and occurs when your body is destroying the very cells that produce insulin, which leads to insulin deficiency.

Type 2 diabetes is more common, and affects 90 to 95 percent of people with diabetes. It happens when your pancreas is not making enough insulin, leading to the buildup of glucose in your blood. Obesity, hypertension, family history of diabetes, and physical inactivity are some of the common risk factors of type 2 diabetes.

And this might come as a surprise to you, but did you know that depression and sleep deprivation can also lead you towards this disease?

Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes Symptoms That You Should Take Note Of

Type 1 diabetes symptoms develop fast and show up over a few weeks. On the other hand, type 2 diabetes symptoms often go unnoticed as the disease develops slowly over the years. i

Here are some symptoms of diabetes that you should be aware of:

  • Excessive thirst
  • Tiredness
  • Weight loss/gain
  • Blurred vision
  • Frequent infections
  • Extreme hunger even after eating
  • Slow healing of wounds
  • Numbness or tingling in hands/feet
  • Irritability
  • Nausea and possible vomiting

If you are experiencing any of these diabetes symptoms, especially if you have any of the risk factors mentioned above, you should immediately take action to improve your health – before its too late.

How to Determine if You Have Diabetes

If you suspect that you have diabetes, go to your doctor right away and get tested. There are various methods that your physician will conduct to determine if you have diabetes, such as:

  • AIC. This technique measures your protein levels in your red blood cells.
  • Fasting Plasma Glucose (FPG). Your glucose levels will be measured from your blood samples.
  • Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT). Your glucose level is determined before and after you taking a special sweet drink.
  • Random or Casual Plasma Glucose Test. Your doctor will perform this if you already have severe diabetes symptoms.

Addressing the symptoms of diabetes early on is the best way to treat diabetes. It will also greatly help if you  minimize or,  better yet, completely eliminate sugar from your diet.
