Researchers have discovered that a molecule called resveratrol,
found in red wine, could lengthen the human lifespan by 70
percent, or up to 50 years, by switching on a "longevity
gene."
The molecule inhibits fungal infection, raises HDL (good)
cholesterol, lowers PSA levels in males, increases immunity,
controls blood pressure, preserves red blood cells, prevents
blood clots and inhibits inflammation, and studies suggest
it could be a cure for cancer, heart disease and age-related
brain disorders among other things.
The winemaking process keeps the resveratrol from becoming
oxidized. Grape juice, raisins and resveratrol supplements
provide little, if any, resveratrol.
