Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a major factor in death risk for
people over 40 years of age. A study found that people in this
age group were 60 percent to 70 percent more likely to die from
any cause than healthy people or people with osteoporosis. Those
with RA were also at a higher risk--30 percent to 60 percent--of
heart attack and stroke.
